The Veterans Services Officer for Hickman County is an advocate for veterans and their family members. The office seeks to help veterans and families of veterans manage any issue with their military service. The office will suggest ways for veterans to seek employment, but the office is not a job placement service.
The major areas of concentration include developing and submitting disability claims and pension claims for both veterans and widows of veterans who are eligible for benefits. The office also follows up with VA claims and pension management centers to ensure that all claims are complete and accurate.
As a service to veterans, the office also maintains and services both local and federal information databases that manage veterans and widows of veterans information. The office keeps additional files at the local level to help veterans prepare and submit their pension and disability claims.
When necessary, the Veterans Services Officer transports veterans to their VA scheduled medical appointments. Working with local organizations, the office also helps to distribute food boxes to veterans when needed. The office also assists with funeral arrangements for veterans.
